About the Northeast Regional Bahá’í Council

The Bahá’í Faith is a global religious community whose administrative structure includes elected institutions at the global, national, regional, and local levels. The Universal House of Justice is the governing council of Bahá’ís worldwide. Beneath the House of Justice, National Spiritual Assemblies govern the affairs of Bahá’í communities at the level of the nation-state. And at the level of geographic areas about the size of a town or city, Bahá’ís elect Local Spiritual Assemblies to oversee their communities.

In nations with relatively large populations or geographic areas, Regional Bahá’í Councils provide an intermediary level of coordination and administration between National and Local Spiritual Assemblies. These Councils supervise, on behalf of the National Assembly, the plans and projects for its region in close collaboration with the Local Spiritual Assemblies and the Bahá’ís within its area of jurisdiction.

The Northeast region is made up of nine states: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The Northeast can also be grouped into four subregions:
